The Roof at Viceroy

The Rose Club at The Plaza

Old New York opulence oozes from the iconic Plaza Hotel. The institution's The Rose Club offers a charming plot for a romantic sip, with delightfully ostentatious decor and formally mannered staff. The Plaza's lobby is big, so when searching for The Rose Club, look up and follow the pink light. Colored light fixtures, casting a dim, pink glow, drape the space in a subdued, romantic air. The décor is magenta and gold-colored glitz: mahogany wood paneling, velvety sofas and carefully placed throw pillows.

The Rum House

This well-known Times Square bar entertains with live piano music, classic cocktails and rum-based concoctions.

The Rusty Knot

The Standard Biergarten

This Meatpacking fixture serves house-brewed German beers in tall frosty mugs that are redeemable via drink tickets available for purchase at the door. Tickets can also be used for house-baked pretzels and old-world sausages, but make sure you leave a friend behind to watch over one of the highly coveted ping-pong tables. The Stonewall Inn

This historic LGBTQ bar—site of the 1969 Stonewall Riots—is touted as the origin of “Gay Pride.” A wood-paneled ground floor contrasts a flashy upstairs with disco balls and daily drag shows. Comedy and cabaret shows are also presented.
