A Big Hand for Hands on a Hardbody

A Big Hand for Hands on a Hardbody

I come not to bury Hands on a Hardbody but to praise it. Hands down, it’s the best new musical on Broadway since Once. But it’s hurting at the box office. Obituaries are being written. Sure, there are other boot-stompin’ new shows vying for attention and dollars, but don’t be blinded by their flash and trash. Hardbody is the real McCoy. It holds a mirror up to the America of today, and what's reflected ain’t always pretty. But it’s got guts, heart and intelligence. Is there a more brilliantly sustained and staged number on the boards than the first act’s "Joy of the Lord"? Humanity stops a show every time. Check this one out.
