Housed in small, elegant spot on E. 57th Street, Federico Hair & Spa is an impressive salon that offers a wide array of hair services, all helmed by Federico Calce, the talented stylist who was formerly artistic director of Bergdorf Goodman’s salon, and has appeared on such programs as “The View,” and “Good Day New York.” Federico himself was on hand on a recent Friday to personally beautify me. First he had one his staffers give me a shampoo and luxurious head massage, putting me in the proper state of Zen. Next Federico whisked me away to his styling chair, expertly scissoring away, giving me a soft subtle cut with a sense of weightlessness that seemed just perfect for the summer season. The particularly terrific perk of this boutique for the New York City visitor, though, is Federico Salon Direct, a 24-hour hair and beauty service available for hotel guests. Federico will send a member of his staff, at any hour, seven days a week to virtually any room or hotel in the city for a treatment, be it hair, make-up, nails or massage: All you have to do is have your concierge call three hours in advance for the appointment. For a harried traveler looking to “clean up nice” in the comfort of your own hotel room, what could be more luxuriously easy?
