NYC’s Holiday Pop-Up Shops
NYC’s Holiday Pop-Up Shops
As I mentioned this past week, temporary stores are popping up all over the city in time for the holidays. From one-of-kind jewelry and unique items from international artisans to prepared food and even flowers, here are a few shops selling plenty of worthwhile giftable items.
ID Pop Shop: Holiday
Typically found in Chelsea Market, ID Pop Shop has opened a standalone holiday shop in the Meatpacking District next door to the Diane Von Furstenberg store and The High Line entrance. At the temporary location, visitors can shop a wide range of unique items from New York-based, independent designers—from jewelry and skincare products to notebooks made of old records and quirky art. Expect to find giftable items from brands such as Barbara Wilkinson Jewelry, Vernakular Photo Designs, Lio + Linn, Cor Pottery, Malaya Organics and more. The store is open at 446 W. 14th St. thru Dec. 21, Mon. thru Sat., 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sun., 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Jingle Holiday Pop Up Extravaganza
Although some Chelsea Market vendors are finding their way to other parts of the city to open temporary holiday shops, there’s still plenty of worthwhile retailers to check out at the Manhattan destination. In fact, Chelsea Market has gotten in on the pop-up craze and opened its own pop-up shop for the holidays. The Jingle Holiday Pop Up Extravaganza features a wide range of gifts from 16 U.S.-based companies (think large wool DIY kits from Loopy Mango; quirky retro imagery and potions from Spitfire Girl; men’s travel gadgets and grooming accessories from Izola; classic stocking stuffers and fun gadgets from Flight 001; and plant-based skincare products from Bloomsbury Square). The shop is open thru Dec. 20.
Brookfield Ephemeral Boutique
Opened in late November in lower Manhattan at Brookfield Place New York (just in time for the holiday season), this aromatic pop-up shop teams L’Olivier Floral Atelier—a high-end name in floral design—with Dümmen Orange, a world leader in flower breeding. Visitors can shop selections from a ‘Grab-and-Go’ collection. Items start at $35 and highlights include striking bouquets teeming with a variety of roses, daisies, gerberas, seeded eucalyptus, lily grass, aspidistra, philodendron leaves and more. L’Olivier Floral Atelier’s signature arrangements, priced from $125, are also available. The pop up will remain open thru May 2016.
Located right inside Urbanspace Vanderbilt near Grand Central Terminal, Urbanspace Provisions is a pop-up shop that’s perfect for any foodies on your holiday shopping list. Visitors can shop a mouthwatering selection of prepared foods—such as small-batch sauces and jams, cured meats, cheeses, handmade chocolate, sweet treats and more—from more than 15 vendors, including Dickson's, Barklyn, Farm to People, Many Kitchens, City Saucery and Campbell's Cheese & Grocery. While perusing the aisles, hungry shoppers can recharge with yummy brunch items from Urbanspace Vanderbilt's new brunch menu. The pop-up shop is located on the west side of Urbanspace Vanderbilt and is open Dec. 19 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Muzungu Sisters Pop-Up
If you have any globetrotting friends or family on your holiday list, make sure to stop by the Muzungu Sisters pop-up shop in the Meatpacking District. The website Muzungu Sisters, founded by Tatiana Santo Domingo and Dana Alikhani, is dedicated to handcrafted products by artisans from around the world. In the brand’s temporary, brick-and-mortar location, visitors can shop interesting finds such as Sicilian basket totes, caftans from Morocco, Venetian slippers, Peruvian sweaters, the Muzungu Sisters collaboration of postcard clutches with Olympia Le Tan and more. The shop will be open Dec. 17 thru 19 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 402 W. 13th St.
