Booklovers Unite at Rizzoli’s New Flagship

This past week, Rizzoli Bookstore—which bookworms most likely remember from its former spot in Midtown—opened a new flagship a little farther downtown in the heart of NoMad.

At the new spot, those that prefer their reading material in non-electronic form can shop the famed merchant’s impressive collection of art, design, interiors, fashion, literature non-fiction books and more, as well as music CDs and classic film DVDs,in a 5,000-square-foot space, which occupies the ground-floor level of the historic St. James Building, dating back to the early 19th century.

The new store features an 18-foot-tall by 34-foot-wide glass façade that showcases the interior’s 18-foot ceilings, a peaked skylight, and an expansive windowed salon entered via a red mullioned pivot door. Those who spent hours in the former location might recognize a few things in the new locale, as many of the classic fixtures from the 57th Street store have been preserved and re-introduced in the new space, including its cherry wood bookcases and grand brass and iron chandeliers.

While browsing the classics and more in the three grand rooms of the store, visitors can gaze upon custom-made wallpaper featuring surreal motifs of Italian cities floating in the clouds, hot air balloons, Zodiac figures and more.

The store is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
