Socializing at Sofia Wine Bar, Café

Socializing at Sofia Wine Bar, Café

I used to work in Midtown East. At the time, I was in my early 20s and would often grab cocktails on Friday nights with my coworkers. Of course we had our go-to haunts, but on a recent trip back to the area I discovered Sofia Wine Bar, Café, an intimate eatery that’s perfect for after-work drinks and socializing.

Although my stop at Sofia Wine Bar, Café was somewhat brief—I spent about 40 minutes in the charming restaurant on my way to an event nearby—I was definitely able to get a sense of the place. I stopped by around 6 p.m. on a Tuesday and could already hear the boisterous patrons as I approached the establishment.

The small dining room features exposed brick walls, sturdy wooden tables, large mirrors and ornate chandeliers, which serves as the perfect casual setting to sip a crisp glass of white or full-bodied red and recount the day’s exploits with friends or colleagues.

On the food front, the simple menu is teeming with appetizing sharable selections. Although I knew I would eat later that evening, I couldn’t resist sampling the spinach & artichoke dip, which everyone in my party declared to be the best they’d ever had; and the savory meatball sliders, which had just the right amount of flavorful tomato sauce. The restaurant’s other mouthwatering morsels include comforting mac n’ cheese, meat and cheese platters, pizza and jumbo shrimp cocktail. If you have a sweet tooth, the restaurant also has tartufo, cannoli and other end-of-meal treats to satisfy sugar cravings.

If you work in Midtown East, or are looking for a relaxing setting to take a break after exploring the area’s attractions, visit Sofia Wine Bar & Café for a little conversation and a lot of fun.
