I wouldn’t say I’m a coffee snob, but I’ve been drinking the caffeinated brew for as long as I can remember. I don’t subscribe to the “double whip,” “double foam,” etc. philosophy—just give me a plain old cup of coffee any day. So, when I was told a few years ago that the best cup of coffee to be had in New York City was right around the corner from my job, I was a little skeptical. Stumptown Coffee Roasters is a trendy spot housed in the Flatiron District’s Ace Hotel—and I have to say, the establishment makes a pretty mean cup of Joe. The few times I’ve ventured over to Stumptown, the line is normally very long but moves quickly. This Portland, Oregon offshoot features a varied menu of robust coffee staples (think espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, etc.), served by eclectically styled hipsters.
