Chelsea Market is one of the greatest indoor food halls of the world, with more than thirty-five vendors purveying everything from soup to nuts, wine to coffee, cheese to cheesecake. The block long foodtopia attracts six million national and international visitors annually. But there’s one particular vendor that’s is marrying socially conscious home design and retail with delicious food and cocktails. BLACKBARN shop, café & bar, which celebrated its one-year anniversary last week, represents a blend of industrial, artful, refined, and understated sensibilities. It redefines luxury by combining farm vernacular with elegant style in a carefully curated group of products. The shop’s eclectic mix of luxury home goods that have been personally sourced from exotic locations by husband and wife duo, Mark and Kristen Zeff, or else custom designed, are grouped within the shop to create easy points of discovery winding from the market-facing entrance to the new lounge.

The new cozy lounge, emulates a living room and act as a segue between the shop and café. A new menu was created for the space along with an accompanying summer cocktail program designed by co-owner and Chef, John Doherty. The new space features regular DJ sets at a vintage Moroccan table, as well as furnishings custom-designed by Zeff and art specially curated from his personal collection. The menu reflects the luxe vibe created by these pieces, including savory Mangalitsa pork and creamy Calderwood cheese. Refreshing summer cocktails are being introduced alongside these dishes, including choices like the Berry White, featuring tequila, blackberry, lime, and basil, and a special Frosé with fresh strawberry and peach.

So while visiting NYC this Summer, take a moment to explore Chelsea Market and stop into BLACKBARN shop, café & bar on the ground level and purchase beautiful items from companies like Slate + Salt, The Thorn Tree Project and Creative Women that give back to benefit worldwide efforts. Grab a bite, a refreshing cocktail and relax in this welcoming new oasis just steps from museums, the Hudson River and more.
