Silence! The Musical Will Make You Laugh Out Loud

December 26th, 2012 by Lynn Rickert

Last week I saw Silence! The Musical, the musical parody of cult horror film The Silence of the Lambs. I’m usually terrified of scary movies (and plays), but the humorous songs in this show calmed my nerves despite its murder-filled plot. For those who’ve seen the Anthony Hopkins/Jodie Foster classic, the show is likely even funnier. But even though I’d never seen it, Silence! was still hilarious and filled me in on enough key details to get the jokes. Pamela Bob played FBI student Clarisse Starling with an over-the-top Southern accent and an overly pronounced lisp, while understudy Doug Trapp filled in perfectly as the creepy serial killer Hannibal Lector. It was Ronica V. Reddick, however, who stole the show with her quips and characterization of Clarisse’s FBI classmate Ardelia Mapp, a prison guard and a sheep-chorus member among other minor roles.
